Riding Tips

We have a great many folks come in for our motorcycle rallies from all over the US, Canada, and Mexico.  Even experienced riders need to know some specific cautions and riding tips to safely enjoy the unique hazards of the Texas Hill Country.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery but pay attention to the road. The roads are tricky, and you need to pay full attention to wildlife and fallen rocks or other surface hazards. If riding in a group spread-out, don’t get too close to each other.

Deer and Hogs are everywhere, especially around dawn and dusk, and after dark.  It’s highly recommended to use extreme caution during these times. Pay close attention to the road, roadsides, and nearby tree lines. They can and will jump or dart out into the road very quickly.  This is one of the most important riding tips for you to remember as they often seem to come from nowhere.

While riding the Twisted Sisters, PLEASE be careful. If the sign says 15 MPH, do it. This is more of a riding requirement vs a riding tip.  These roads offer tight turns, steep inclines, sheer drop-offs, and sections with 65+ curves in a short distance.  They are exciting but they can be dangerous if you’re not careful.

Some sections of the sisters may have falling or fallen rocks or loose gravel that can be difficult to navigate on a motorcycle.  Watch for free-range livestock along  the roads, particularly on FM 336, and pay attention to slow moving ranch trucks and other vehicles.

There are several accidents on the Twisted Sisters every year. If you go down it will take first responders a while to get to you and there is no cell service in many areas on the Twisted Sisters.

LookLearnLive.Org provides motorcycle crash statistics on the Twisted Sisters. They state that there were 248 fatal and incapacitating crashes between 2010 and 2023. Below is a snippet from June 2025. Please visit their website for current and complete statistics.

We highly recommend this guided ride for both experienced and rookie riders. About a 4–5-hour ride through the Twisted Sisters with a lunch stop at Bent Rim Grill / Frio Canyon Motorcycle Shop in Leakey, TX. It’s the perfect place to grab one of the best burgers in the Hill Country, take in some amazing views from their patio while you eat, and grab some Twisted Sisters merch!  It’s a slow easy ride with beautiful scenery and sights. Be sure to check out our other rally events as well.

Bandera County Sheriff’s Office, Bandera City Marshals Office and DPS are great guys, and they love to see all the riders enjoy the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Their goal is to ensure the safety of their local residents and visitors alike.  Just remember… “Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes”. Please use your head, ride sober, ride legally, ride safe, and have fun.  We’re gathering with a few thousand of our biker friends to have a good time, and let’s face it, we’re all too old to get hurt or spend the remainder of the rally in the pokey.

Have fun and ride safe!
